My experience with Google Cloud pricing

I recently experimented with a minimal Google Cloud App Engine instance and wanted to share how the service priced my usage.

In their billing view, you'll see a description that looks something like this:

App Engine Flex Instance Core Hours: 2981.858 Hours (Source:MyProject [myproject-12345678])
$156

I used the service for about four months, so 2,982 hours is 124 days, which is about right. That comes out to about $37/mo.

That's almost 4 times as much as a 2GB Linode instance, which comes to $10/mo.

I can't recommend this for small apps. Seems like a high price to pay just to avoid some sysadmin work.
